Yesterday was an odd day. That Kid started his first day of afternoon preschool. That Dad and I went to our favorite breakfast place for lunch, and then to the Bullseye Store. Not so different. Things that were different...
1. That Dad, while blowing his nose said, "Sorry for blowing my nose so loudly!" and I said, "It's OK! Everybody does it...kind of like that book 'Everybody Poops'." And That Dad said, "Uh-huh...Shania (as in Twain, his country music girlfriend) doesn't. I bet she poops roses, diamonds, and tiny puppies." And That Dad started laughing so hard when I told him, "Roses have thorns, diamonds are pointy and even tiny puppies are pretty big to poop!" that he almost crashed.
2. We went to another store...um...it's BIG and has LOTS of stuff. We had an hour. We did our shopping and made our way to the front of the store...and the line was longer than I had ever seen it. There was no way we were going to make it through the line, and to pick up That Kid from school in time. So I found the first employee I saw (who happened to be the manager), and asked her if we could leave our cart full of stuff there and come back in about 20 minutes to purchase it and she said we could. So, we took off to get That Kid and came back. It took probably 25 minutes. By the time That Dad went back in, they had restocked all the stuff. Wasn't a big deal, there wasn't anything that important in there...except maybe the ice melt. And my shaving gel.
3. We almost DID crash yesterday, for real. Today there was supposed to be a snow storm. They were calling for 1-3 inches. So, the city decided to spray the streets in advance for the storm. They use sodium chloride, I believe. What I do know is that stuff is slicker than snot. That Dad, while driving to pick up That Kid from school, made a right hand turn. And the next thing I know we're up on the sidewalk, right by a bus stop. Thankfully there were no pedestrians, and no one waiting for the bus, and we didn't hit either of the poles that were on the sidewalk. I told That Dad the city should wait until the flakes start flying to spray that nasty stuff...we didn't even get a HALF INCH. No was was the sodium chloride needed for a half inch of snow!
Today we have a meeting with That Kid's teachers, and we get to meet his new teacher. And then I get to go to the dentist for a filling. Could today BE any more fun??

Had to take That Kid to the pedi again :(
He's had an awful cough for the past few days...probably since Wednesday or Thursday. He wasn't complaining about anything else, and wasn't running a fever, so we weren't too concerned. Friday, his teacher said that he just wasn't himself (plus he BIT one of the aides in the class! Holy Biting Child, Batman! We thought he was pretty much over that!), and as the weekend progressed his cough got worse and worse.
I started getting freaked out, so we went in this morning. We saw "Dr. B*tch of the World" as That Dad calls her. That Kid was charming, and even kissed her before we left. She said, "Awwwwwww...that made my day!" and gave him a hug. See...he has good social skills! :)
And, the verdict is...a double ear infection (He never, ever complained about his ears!) and a mild case of RSV. That Kid...when he gets sick he makes sure to get REAL sick!

That Dad thinks we need a new pediatrician...
and he's probably right. That Kid had to go visit Dr. M today. He sees Dr. M once a year now. This was actually his 3 year check up. Yes, I'm well aware that my child turned 3 in October. ;) However, I had to cancel his appointment in October and this was the soonest we could get in. That alone says we should probably get a new pediatrician, huh?
So, knowing that not only it takes 4 months to get an appointment to see the doctor, but once you actually have an appointment and come to the office, it takes at LEAST 45 minutes for the doctor to come into the room, I let That Kid bring my Nintendo DS to play while we were waiting. He gets to play it when he has appointments, or when we're shopping. This way he does his own thing and is happy, and we can shop in peace and WE are happy! That was a mistake. He was in the middle of playing when she came in, and threw a huge fit when I took the game back. Then, he wouldn't look her in the eye (which isn't unusual, he never looks anyone in the eye). She thinks that we need to go to a developmental pediatrician to see if he has delays past his speech delay. She also thinks we need to take him to a pediatric ophthalmologist because he refuses to participate in eye exams, and that when he's 5 we will start discussing medicinal options for ADHD.
Needless to say, That Dad is done. He thinks our pediatrician is a nutjob. I'm going to be talking with his teacher tomorrow to set up a meeting and get not only her thoughts, but the thoughts of That Kid's occupational and speech therapists. They see him daily, they know him much better than his doctor does.

25 random things about me...just for fun!
Here are 25 random things about me...things that I think you might be interested in, but I would never devote a whole blog to.
1. When I was 3, my picture appeared in The Triplicate, my hometown paper. I told people I was a "celebity".
2. My proposal from That Dad included the words, "Are you going to have a cigarette?" Best proposal ever!
3. I had the chicken pox twice. Once in the 3rd grade, once in the 8th grade.
4. I moved to The Mile High City when I was 23. My mother told people that I had "ran away from home". She didn't take my departure very well.
5. I was going to audition for American Idol in 2005, but didn't, because That Dad and I were going to adopt my cousin's baby. So, I skipped the auditions, then the day after the auditions, That Dad sat me down and told me that he didn't think it was wise for us to adopt the baby. He ruined my chance to be discovered! Anyone else think that he waited to talk about it until the audition day had passed for a reason?
6. Baking is one thing I really enjoy doing. However, I do not take it well when things don't turn out. That Dad has had to enjoy things such as carrot cake in a bowl (looking back, I was ahead of the times...essentially I had made cake balls without rolling them into balls and dipping them in chocolate). Truffles, on the other hand, I have never had a problem with. I make a gooooooooood truffle!
7. I also like cooking. My cooking is better than my baking, for the most part. My grilling, on the other hand, is not. That Dad does not like chicken jerky. Whatever...one mistake and I'm not allowed to use the grill. Ugh.
8. When I was 3, I had an imaginary sister named Krinna. She was an awful child. She'd mess my room up, and do awful things like leave the water running in the bathroom sink and lock the bathroom door. I've heard she got held back in the 7th grade, got knocked up in the 8th grade and is now running the streets of San Francisco with her children. They've formed a Partridge Family like band to make money.
9. I have never broken a bone.
10. I have visited Boulder, CO specifically to go to JonBenet Ramsey's house. I wanted to take pictures, but decided that would be disrespectful so I just looked at the house from the street and cried a little.
11. During the first year of That Kid's life, I took over 10,000 pictures of him. That number has significantly decreased as he's gotten older.
12. My first pet was a goldfish named Crystal. My Daddy also had a goldfish at the same time named Tony. I overfed them once and said, "I hope Tony dies and not Crystal!"
13. Had I been a boy, I was going to be named Anthony David, and called Tony. I think my Dad had an obsession with the name Tony. Can't use it for a kid? Give it to a fish.
14. Had That Kid been a girl, his name would have been Danica, after Indy car driver (and soon to be NASCAR driver) Danica Patrick.
15. My favorite movie is Rosemary's Baby.
16. In high school, I was on the tall flag team. We would create routines with 6' long flags that we performed at football games with the Marching Band. I don't know how many times I hit myself on the head while tossing a flag...but at least I never hit anyone ELSE on the head!
17. That Dad and I used to have a cat named Martina. She was our first pet together, and was more work than we thought she was going to be. About 2 1/2 years after we got her, she was diagnosed with diabetes. She had to eat special food, and get insulin shots twice a day. We did this for about 2 years, then she got too sick and we had to put her to sleep. Now, she resides on our mantle in a small wooden box.
18. In November of 2008, I went to my first NKOTB concert and met the drummer and guitarist, Chris and Fish, while trying to meet the boys. And I have seen them on stage twice, and once on Jimmy Kimmel Live since meeting them, so I know it was really them and they were really who they said they were, and not just two creepy guys.
19. I was awarded a medal for Vocal Excellence by the Marines when I was in High School.
20. I'm not nearly as interesting as I thought I was.
21. That Dad and I have a Dasani water bottle that Sammy Hagar drank out of. We got it at a concert. That Dad's friend was up on stage (because he has that kind of luck); and when Sammy was done drinking from the bottle, he threw it behind his head. That Dad's friend caught it, and gave it to us for driving him and his wife to the show. :)
22. When I go to visit my Mom and Dad, we have to eat at a specific chinese restaurant so I can get lemon chicken. I just can't find any place that makes it as good as this restaurant does!
23. That Dad and I ended up having a slumber party on our wedding night. We had a huge hotel room (they called it the Penthouse...it had two bedrooms and three beds), so That Dad's friends stayed with us. And I was so exhausted, that I went to bed before everyone else.
24. Until I was 31, I bit my nails. Not sure what changed when I turned 31, but I just stopped.
25. Don't tell That Kid, but I don't mind watching most of his shows with him. The only one I can't stand is Wow Wow Wubbzy. And sadly, that's the one he wants to watch the most.

The answer is....
30 10 15
I couldn't do it three days in a row. But, the thing that counts is that I went, and I did work out some. And, the 30 was in the elliptical, which is probably the most difficult machine I use. I'm still proud of myself for going. :)

More gym talk...
Last night, I went to the gym. Crunchy Mama and I were going to start this 5k training, but honestly I'm not training for a 5k. I don't want to participate in a 5k, so I don't want to train for one, either. So, while Crunchy Mama does her 5k training, I do my own thing. And last night, I started something I call 30 30 30. Maybe those will be my measurements when I'm cute and skinny. 30 30 30 would certainly be better than what I'm at now...even if it's not curvy!
So, my 30 30 30 thing...it's 30 minutes on the treadmill, 30 minutes on the elliptical, and 30 minutes on the bike, not using the same machines in the same order each time. I've done it two days in a row now. The first 30 minutes I used the elliptical tonight. Fairly easy to make it through. The second 30 minutes, I rode the bike. Even easier to get through, because I was reading while riding and that makes things go faster. ;) The last 30?!? I didn't want to do it. But, I kept telling myself that I *could* do it, and if I did do it, That Dad would be thrilled with me. So, I got on that treadmill.
Tuesday night on The Biggest Loser, they were running the treadmill at an inclination of 10, and speed of 3. I just wanted to see what an inclination of 10 would feel like. I think I managed 2 minutes before going back to an inclination of 1.5 (then eventually zero...). I had about 10 minutes left tonight, and I just wanted to stop. But then...inspiration came from my Mp3 player. The King, singing A Little Less Conversation. And I was pumped. I listened to it once, got to the end and pushed repeat. Listened to it again and even sped the treadmill up, and my time was over!!! I had done it!
Friday night, my inspiration to keep going was I'm Fabulous, from the Phineas and Ferb soundtrack. Maybe I should just put those two songs on repeat, and I'll be the most motivated girl in the gym!!
Who knows what tomorrow will bring. Can I handle 30 30 30 for THREE days in a row? Or will it be 20 20 20? I'll be back tomorrow with the answer. ;)

Squid Dogs!!!!
I have been babysitting a little girl for the last two days (Oh Em Gee...I complain That Kid isn't potty trained yet but this little girl has taught me I don't WANT to have That Kid potty trained! "I have to go potty!" so we run, run, run to the bathroom, she pulls her pants and undies down and I help her up on the toilet and she sits there for .4 seconds and says, "I'm done!" FIFTEEN THOUSAND TIMES A DAY. You think I'm exaggerating. I wish I were.). We wanted to have a special lunch today, and I found Squid Dogs in Family Fun Magazine. Oh, excuse me, DISNEY Family Fun Magazine.
I present to you, Pioneer Woman style........SQUID DOGS!!!!

I managed to break myself
Last night, I finished up watching The Biggest Loser from Tuesday night. While I was watching, I started feeling guilty about the cheeseburger I had eaten earlier in the day, so I started doing push ups (because I'm a NINJA!). Real push ups, not sissy girl ones. I managed to do 6 before That Kid ran my hand over with his bike. Slapped him around a bit, then did 5 more. Then I went to brag on myself to That Dad, who was sufficiently impressed, but wondered if I did sissy girl push ups. I told him, "Heck no, I don't do sissy girl push ups! Watch this!" And then the following...
I got into awesome push up position. I pushed down. And I dropped to the floor in agony. I have pulled something in my stomach, and it feels like my c-section incision (that is over 3 years old, mind you) has ripped open. OK...fine, I'm over exaggerating. But it hurts like nothing I've ever felt before (except recovering from my c-section). The extra 31.6 pounds from That Kid jumping on my back when I started my push up (half a push up?) probably had much to do with it.
On a happier note, I think General Larry Platt is probably the most awesome thing to have ever come from American Idol. Don't know who he is? Go to You Tube and enter his name, watch the video, and prepare to be amazed. Then Google him. He's pretty cool.

Reasons it must be so confusing to be That Kid
1) His brother is called Ramen. Ramen noodles are That Kid's new favorite food. Not only is his brother a CHRISTmas ornament, he eats his brother on a regular basis.
2) His sister That Dog is, well, a dog.
3) Some guy named Jesus lives in his heart.
This afternoon, we were reading a book about Baby Jesus called "Who is Coming to Our House"; and at the end we were talking about Jesus and where Jesus lives. I said, "Jesus lives in your heart!" and patted his chest. He got this "Whatchu talkin' bout Willis" look on his face and patted his own chest. Then he pulled the collar of his shirt away, and was looking down inside for Jesus. At least the seed is planted, and he will understand some day...even if he doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about right now!

Back to the gym!
Since joining the gym, I've been trying to make it at least once a week, but with no one to join me it's been hard for me to find the motivation. Well, this month I had to start paying...my four months of free time are up. Thankfully, Crunchy Mama decided she wanted to get back into it this month! ;) We went three times last week; on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Tuesday, I went, and I did what I was supposed to do, but my heart wasn't in it. Lots of stuff on my mind regarding the rental (That Dad was there looking at the damage created by the plumber; thankfully it's minimal and was repaired to our satisfaction for now so we don't have to get anyone in to do further repair work), and I just didn't want to be there. But I went. We skipped around on machines quite a bit, and I have no idea how many miles we did. Probably 1, all together!
Thursday, I was much more into it. We went earlier in the evening, and I wasn't thinking about anything but working out. We did a mile on the treadmill, a mile on the bike, and 3/10 of a mile on the elliptical, which is truly the Devil's exercise equipment. Oh, and I did 50 crunches. Go me!
Saturday, we went early in the day. Too early. I couldn't find a parking spot out front, and ended up having to park behind the building. Carrying That Kid, because it was snowy, and slushy in the parking lot. Ugh. Got inside, and the line for Kids Club was wrapped around the desk. And the smell...let me tell you about the smell...it was AWFUL. Oh wait...the smell was coming from That Kid's diaper. So, I had to get out of line and take him to change his diaper. Didn't know exactly where to take him, so I ended up taking him to the Women's locker room and told him not to look at anything. :D Crunchy Mama arrived while I was changing That Kid, and once I got him changed, I took him back to Kids Club then did my 50 crunches. By that time, Crunchy Mama was ready, so we hit the treadmill. 1 mile later, Crunchy Mama decided to get on that machine from the Devil. I joined her, for 5 minutes. Ugh. I gave up, and went to do another 2.5 miles on the bike. Came back, and found Crunchy Mama still going at it on the elliptical, so I joined her. I was going to do another 5 mintutes, but only made it 2:15.
After that, we decided to reward ourselves with a trip to the hot tub. Oh my goodness...it was so nice to soak in the tub after all that work! Then we hopped into the steam room, the sauna, and the pool. While we were getting changed, we decided we'd take the kids to lunch since she only had 2 of her 6. Called That Dad and let him know the plan, then went to get That Kid and the Crunchy Kids.
But guess what?!? That Kid had an accident while we were working out. A huge accident. And he had taken his spare pants out of his diaper bag, so he was wearing a diaper and no shoes. So, no lunch for us. We had to come straight home. Oh well.
We'll see what next week brings. I'm hoping to do my crunches every day, which will give me 150 crunches for the week. I just have one question...why is it, if ONE cookie is good; then FIVE is better? Why can't I just stop at one?

It's amazing how quickly they grow up
Shed a tear, That Kid is grown up enough to make his own sandwich.
Last night, I babysat for Crunchy Mama's six great kids. She and Crunchy Dad recently acquired a foster baby; Baby S is about 6 weeks old or so. She weighs just over 6 pounds. Teeny tiny. She was (I think) 3 pounds 12 ounces at birth, so she's gained quite a bit. I enjoyed snuggling Baby S, and Baby E (The Crunchy bio-baby; she's 7 months), and the other three Crunchy Kids were great, too! Oh...four, if you count the 16 year old. ROFL He was a great help!
So, since I was hanging with the Crunchies last night, That Dad and That Kid stayed home and hung out. When I got home, That Dad told me what That Kid had for dinner. He started out with 1/2 a PB&J, and an apple. Then he decided he wanted an orange, so he had one of those, too. That Dad went from the kitchen into the dining room for a second, and when he came back he discovered That Kid had taken a chair and moved it over to the counter, got a knife and a two pieces of bread, then spread yogurt on the bread. Then he asked for more peanut butter and jelly, which That Dad gave him. He ate the whole thing. Apparently, it was quite tasty...he was trying to get me to let him have another one when I got home at 10:15.

Nooo...don't do anything else, That Plumber!!
OK...so we have renters. Long story, don't want to say anything defamatory in case they somehow find my blog (long shot, but still). BUT, there are broken pipes in the rental house. Our old house. The one I brought That Kid home to when he was 4 days old. The one that I bought with That Dad when we were newly married.
Last week, we found out that there was a broken pipe in the bathroom downstairs. It deteriorated. Had it fixed today, and it's going to be around $2,500 to fix the problem, PLUS fixing the floor, which had to be jack hammered. On his way out, That Plumber discovered there's also a broken pipe in the wall (when the renters were dumping water down the kitchen sink). Hopefully an easy fix will take care of it. The easy fix which will be another $2,500. The not so easy fix will be between $7,000 and $8,000. The not so easy fix will require ripping out a portion of the stairs.
Some of the issue may be that it went from a family of three to a family of six, soon to be seven, living in the home. Who knows. What I do know is that it's costing us money for these people to be living in our home when we're supposed to be making money. It's making me just sick to my stomach.
That Step-Father-in-Law keeps telling us that we can't think of the rental as our home; that we need to think of it as a business investment. But, we didn't WANT to be landlords. Neither one of us are very good at being forceful. I heard a term today on The People's Court, "Compassionate Landlords". That's us. Being compassionate is what got us in this situation to begin with.

2010 is starting out to be real pissy...
Last night That Kid's diaper fell off. In bed. I found out at 6AM when he peed. In my face. It's gonna be a great day!
